Unleash the Fun: Discover the Best Dog-Friendly Beaches in St Ives

When searching for the perfect dog-friendly beaches in St Ives, it’s essential to know where your pup can roam freely. Here’s your guide to the top spots for dog walks in St Ives:

Bamaluz Beach: Year-Round Dog Paradise

Bamaluz Beach

This hidden gem, nestled between St Ives Harbour and Porthgwidden Beach, is a true year-round dog-friendly beach in St Ives. Perfect for playful pups, Bamaluz is a smaller, tidal beach, so always check the tide times for optimal sandy stretches. It’s a fantastic spot for a quick run and a refreshing splash!

Lambeth Walk Beach: Central & Canine-Friendly

Lambeth Walk Beach (Porthkidney Sands)

Often overlooked but centrally located behind the RNLI station, Lambeth Walk Beach also welcomes dogs all year round. While access involves a slight scramble over rocks, at low tide, it reveals a lovely sandy area for your dog to enjoy.

Breakwater Beach: Harbour-Side Adventures for Dogs

Breakwater Beach

Situated on the seaward side of Smeaton’s Pier, Breakwater Beach is generally a dog-friendly beach throughout the year, though do note potential restrictions past the lighthouse during July and August. At low tide, this beach offers a great expanse of sand for your dog to explore.

Porthkidney Sands (near Carbis Bay/and the area of Lelant): Expansive & Restriction-Free

Porth Kidney Beach Dog Friendly

Just a short drive from St Ives, Porthkidney Sands is a vast, open, dog-friendly beach, all year round, with no seasonal restrictions. This expansive stretch of sand is a dream for dogs, providing ample space for energetic play and long, invigorating walks. It’s often quieter, making it ideal for those seeking a more secluded dog beach near St Ives.

Mexico Towans & Gwithian Beach: Miles of Dog-Walking Bliss

Gwithian Beach

For the ultimate long dog walks in Cornwall, head slightly further afield to Mexico Towans and Gwithian Beach. These stunning, extensive beaches offer miles of year-round dog-friendly coastline, perfect for an adventurous day out.

Important Note on Seasonal Restrictions:

Many of St Ives’ main town beaches, including Porthmeor, (hosting the infamous Porthmeor Cafe) Porthminster, Porthgwidden, and St Ives Harbour Beach, have seasonal dog bans or restrictions during peak summer months (typically from mid-May/early July to end of September, often between 10 am and 6 pm). However, outside these hours and throughout the tranquil autumn and winter months (October to May), dogs are generally welcome on all St Ives beaches. Always check local signage upon arrival for the most current information.
